By Ylenia Sultana Lauria and Sophie Pule
YLENIA & SOPHIE: Hello Martina! Thank you for joining us. Today, we’ll be asking you a few questions for The Voice and Photography.
SOPHIE: When you were in Form 1, were you a newcomer?
MARTINA: Yes, I was a newcomer. At first, I didn’t have any friends at all. But after a few weeks, my friend group started forming, and I finally felt like I belonged.
YLENIA: How does it feel now that you’re in Form 5?
MARTINA: It’s stressful, but I also feel relieved that I’ve almost finished my O-Level exams.
SOPHIE: What subjects did you choose in Form 2?
MARTINA: I chose Physics, Geography, and History. When I was younger, I was obsessed with mythology, and when I go to university, I’d like to choose subjects related to history because it’s really close to my heart.
YLENIA: Which schools are you hoping to attend after OLIS?
MARTINA: I was considering De La Salle or St Aloysius, but I’ve decided to go somewhere that offers a higher level of education.
SOPHIE: What will you miss most about OLIS?
MARTINA: I’ll miss my friends the most. We went from seeing each other five days a week to barely seeing one another, as we’ll all be going to different schools. Just thinking about it is heartbreaking.
YLENIA: What do you want to be when you grow up?
MARTINA: When I was younger, I wanted to be a lawyer—imagine me wearing one of those powdered wigs! But as I got older, I realized I want to work in criminology—not as a criminal, of course! I’d love to become a detective or do something related to solving crimes.
SOPHIE: If you had to choose only one teacher from the whole school, who would it be and why?
MARTINA: It’s a tough choice between Ms Daniela, the history teacher, and Ms Carla, the geography teacher. But I think I’d choose Ms Carla because I’m very close to her daughter. She’s met my whole family, and she feels like a second mother to me.
YLENIA: What’s your favourite subject and why?
MARTINA: Definitely Geography! Not only do I enjoy the subject, but I also have a great relationship with the teacher.
SOPHIE: What are your favourite hobbies?
MARTINA: I like scrolling on TikTok, but if my phone is dead, I enjoy doodling or writing in my book.
YLENIA: What’s your favourite childhood memory at OLIS?
MARTINA: Since I joined OLIS later on, I don’t have many childhood memories here. But I do remember the moment I finally made some friends and became part of a big group—that’s something I’ll never forget.
SOPHIE: What do you like to do in your free time?
MARTINA: I love writing in my book! (Read the fun facts below to find out more.)
YLENIA: Are you part of any school clubs?
MARTINA: At the moment, I’m in the Student Council and the Chess Club. When I was younger—around your age—I used to be in the Book Club.
SOPHIE: If you had the chance to stay one more year at OLIS, would you? Why or why not?
MARTINA: It depends. No one likes homework or lessons, but if I could stay surrounded by my best friends and favourite teachers—without the lessons—then yes, I definitely would!
YLENIA: If you could go on vacation anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
MARTINA: That’s a tough question, but I’d probably choose somewhere full of colourful cultures, like Brazil, Africa, or India.
CONCLUSION
YLENIA & SOPHIE: That’s all for today, Martina. Thank you so much for your time! We hope you had fun, and we wish you all the very best for your future.
