From the 16th to 24th November our school took part in the European Week for Waste Reduction. This year’s theme was Food waste is out of taste. The OLIS primary EkoSkola committee submitted 3 actions in order to raise awareness about food waste.
The first action was to carry out an Awareness campaign about food waste among students and their families. The students, with support from their educators, produced a short video to raise awareness about food waste. This video was planned and executed by the students themselves during EkoSkola meetings. The completed video was then shared with the school community on the school’s social media to raise awareness.
The second action which was carried out was Monitoring of food waste. A number of students who form part of the primary EkoSkola committee took on the role of class monitors. The class monitors monitored food waste at school, among other things, and they will give feedback to the rest of the school community. The classes that performed the best during these checks will receive a certificate.
The third action was called Ways of reusing food. A poster was made asking the primary school community to share their ideas to reduce food waste. All the ideas were displayed on a bulletin board in the school and compiled into a video which was later shared on the school’s social media.
We hope that these actions will help to raise awareness and reduce food waste among the OLIS community. Together we can make a difference!
